Last week a picture surfaced of Micheal Phelps appearing to be smoking maijuana. There is much debate around the whole ordeal on whether a not the number of his endorsements he has are going to keep their contracts with the gold medal swimmer. Suprisingly many of them have not broke there contracts with the swimmer, they have seen his apology as genwuine and actually think that by this whole ordeal it can actually showcase people are not perfect and even gold medalists and celebrities are imperfect.
I have way agree with some of the endorsements. This public mistake by Phelps does show no one is perfect and all people make mistakes. However just because this 23 year old is an extremely good swimmer, why is he seen as a role model. Everyone has there talents and most people if they put there mind to something and really commit can make something special of themselves. I am not saying that Phelps isn't extremely gifted but that hardly makes him a role model. This 23 year old a few years back was caught drinking and driving and now he is caught smoking pot, between these two events though this guy won a few gold medals, do the gold medals cancel out his mistakes he has made? So what exactly classifies this guy as a role model?
